It has been almost a decade since the global introduction of 4G cellular communication technology and like all technological innovations, there will soon be a new and improved version – 5G (or fifth generation). With the implementation of 5G on the horizon, here’s a simple breakdown on the upcoming cellular upgrade and how it will impact your business in the future.
Improved Speed:
Most obviously, 5G will create a speedier mobile network than its predecessor. 4G currently operates at a speed of between 40 and 50ms (between the command’s issuing and the responses received) and in an epic contrast, 5G will run at a speed of between 10 and 20ms. This would reduce any latency issues existing within businesses currently and will allow for businesses which rely heavily on the use of communicative technologies (e.g. drones) to operate at an even faster rate. Communication lags will cease to exist between mobile devices with the implementation of 5G networks.
Increased Capacity:
Website crashes will no longer be a problem with 5G technology as 5G holds a capacity almost 100-fold that of 4G mobile networks. This means that 5G will be able to withstand more simultaneous high-demand applications than 4G and will also be able to cope with large amounts of web traffic with no problems.
Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality:
While AR and VR are nothing new to businesses anymore, the introduction of 5G will certainly make them more common to business operating and marketing strategies in the future. With the ultra-low latency and enormous capacity 5G provides, AR and VR will be easier to support on existing communicative technologies (e.g. websites and apps) and may even become the bare minimum for businesses providing interactive services.
